what would the ppi be if the screen was made to 3.7 inches? still are sharp as the current display?
Since this rumor suggests it would maintain the current resolution, it would not be as sharp. The difference would likely be unnoticeable, however.

Actually contract / No contract does not really make a difference here since I need service anyway.
I have had every model of iPhone since they where released in 2007..... The only one I did not sell with a profit was the original iPhone where no contract discount pricing was available.....
Every other model made money at resale.
Might get this, might not. Don't do contracts so it would be a simple case of buying and selling. Something most people I know do. You lot (Americans) should start doing the same and stop being beholden to 24 month contracts.

I've wanted hyperlinks and a touch screen on the iPod since forever. Many times I do "shuffle songs", then it lands on an artist or album that I'd like to hear more of. It would be great to be able to click on the artist name or the album and then jump right there.

If this ipod killer was coming out of MS central (software dev, etc) i wouldn't be concerned. However the team that is working on it (xbox) actually are decently creative.
Still they need to start actually making money one of these days. Subsidizing new versions for ppls itms libraries it would cost them roughly $1B... They can't sell their player for a premium (if they could they wouldn't need to subsidize song, right?) so the margins are likely to be thin, as are the margins on online music store business (except for record labels). This seems yet another venture without profits in the foreseeable future for xbox division.

Which client are you using? Are both cores being used?
I'm using the default Folding@home client from standford's site. FahMon and F@H WUdget report the core as Gromacs SMP, and it is using both cores. I noticed with activity monitor that it has spawned 4 threads each using around 45-50% CPU which is a bit odd as it is only a dual core machine with no HT. The PPD is at around 1080 and it is going at 1.66x minimum speed. What do you think?

for a while on ebay there were $30 Apple BT mice. Don't know if they're still there, but it was a good buy.

Now instead of having 3 apps always open (ical, mail, address book) - it will be 4. What a resource hog.
Even MS's new office (although with it's problems) on the windows side incorporates collaboration through chat, email, etc within apps. Time to unify iCal, mail, address book, to-do, ichat, and facetime into one nice integrated app to provide easier workflow and collaboration. Or maybe keep facetime / ichat separate for the new unified app - but allow for clicking and auto-launching to communicate with someone right from your unified (ical,address book, mail, to-do app).
I think that would be a boon for apple and even easier to get into businesses.

What are they going to do?
Make an aluminum frame?
INclude a tiny aluminum remote with few buttons?
Build the ATV inside?
Let you calibrate it and configure it from the computer?

I just don't see it happening, Apple has a really high following when it comes to mp3 players and when people have had an iPod, they upgrade to a new iPod, not a Zune.
There is no incentive to go to a Zune. Same DRM, same features. The people who hate the iPod and buy Creative aren't switching to Zune. They don't want to be locked into DRM. So unless microsoft really does something innovative it is just another player in a sea of non-iPods.

Let me state that I agree with the people saying that it's doubtful that they will release a TV set, rather than releasing an improved ATV2. As, liked stated, it's a narrow Market, so many choices at lower prices etc. It'll be hard for Apple to compete, however;

Ok with me. I wouldn't pay for the 4G upgrade from a provider anyway until it was as common nationally as 3G is today. Doing it right is a good plan.

Someone claim the got 43 mins frame time on the biadv with a core i860 and Linux, same CPU as the higher end iMac. That is the same as my 3Ghz 8 core Mac Pro. You think it is possible?
i think it was overclocked to 3.8 ghz or did i read that somewhere else?

I think they were dreaming;) my i7 920 with ubuntu does normal frames in about 6 minutes, I think, I'm at work now so not absolutely sure but in that range. The mp is running normal frames at about 2 minutes.

I spent most of the night last night trying to get gpu2 running in wine on the i7 machine but ran into a problem and gave up. But I have found that the issue may not be with my set up, it may be the wu are bad so I will work on that again tonight to see what happens if I can get a different wu. Here is some info. The iPhone 4 will be a year and a few months old by September. I guess Apple can afford to wait simply because the iPhone brand has a good deal of market power, but it's still strange because their competition will be head over heels ahead of them. I hope iOS 5 is out before fall.
Thats a good point, with the Android platform releasing a new phone every 3 days on every network and with every phone manufacturer possible, This doesnt really make good business sense for Apple.
